Costa Rica have secured a 1-1 draw at Honduras in their first game at the CONCACAF Gold Cup after beating Honduras 2-1 at the Estadio Saprissa.

The Hondurans are currently sitting sixth in the CONCATAF standings with two games remaining.

The hosts opened the scoring in the eighth minute when Juan Manuel “Chuy” Garcia took a free kick from a deep position.

The Costa Rican goalkeeper had a shot saved by defender Marcos Rodriguez and then made the crucial stop in the 11th minute when he pulled off a superb stop to keep out a header from Diego Reyes.

Honduras had two goals from their two penalty kicks to level the score but were unable to find a winner.

The game will now be played on Wednesday.
